Rifles & Swords

I've been listening to The Decemberists a lot these days, and as I was deciding on what pictures to use for this post, the multi-part song "The Island/Come and See/The Landlord's Daughter/You'll Not Feel the Drowning" came into my head.

On the left, J. L. Kirby Smith was mortally wounded at Corinth, Miss., in 1862 while E. Kirby Smith was mortally wounded at Molino Del Rey, Mexico, in 1847.
